Deer Moss

Deer moss (Cladonia sp.), or reindeer lichen, are not true plants, but lichens. Lichens are composite organisms, meaning they are part algae and part fungus. Deer moss prefers sandy upland habitats in Florida, and thick mats like this can take many years to grow.

Deer moss is prized by model railway enthusiasts, who use it to create shrubs and trees for their landscapes.
