Sistrurus miliarius (VENOMOUS)
Do not let the diminutive size of this snake fool you. Even though they do not grow over 2 feet long, the venom contained in the snake can still put a person in the hospital. Because of its small size, the rattle on this snake is barely audible when rattled. Pygmy Rattlesnakes have variable coloration with shades of brown, tan, red, orange and black and sometimes resemble Hognose snakes. Because of their dangerous venom, if you encounter this snake, play it safe and leave it alone.
