Florida Green Watersnake

Nerodia floridana (non-venomous)

The Florida Green Watersnake is the largest watersnake in the United States.  These large, heavy-bodied snakes have been known to grow to over four feet long!  Unlike the Florida watersnake, this species has a green or greenish brown background color with a light, plain belly.  Sometimes they have dark bars that run the length of the body.  Like the Florida Watersnake, this species is most commonly encountered along the edges of lakes and ponds and will readily strike, delivering a very painful bite.
