Storeria occipitomaculata (non-venomous)
As their name implies, the Florida red-bellied Snake has a bright red belly, however the top of the snake can be gray, brown, or almost black. These small snakes rarely exceed 10 inches and do not occur south of Orlando. They like to stay hidden under leaf litter and other debris along the margins of small wetlands where the feed almost exclusively on slugs.One such secretive snake is the Redbellied Snake (Storeria occipitomaculata).
